Typically you will spend more time with your photographer, doing photography things than any other part of your wedding day. It’s worth getting someone who is fun when you need and blends into the background when you need that.

Could your uncle shoot some decent-looking portraits on his new $3000 Sony? Could your cousin get some cute social media worth shots on her new iPhone? In good lighting, sure. But will they catch that kiss, in low light, in the middle of the dance? Will they catch the magic of a backlit shot, at night, in the rain? Will they know to pose you at that right angle to capture all your drop-dead gorgeous look instead of adding 5 or 10 lbs? Not so much. It’s not just the equipment you are paying for. It’s the expertise, the ability to anticipate, act fast, adapt to bad weather, work in less than ideal lighting, pose, and so much more.

Ok, so this isn’t just about price. But well-established, reliable, professional photographers tend to charge what they are worth. Which is more. Finding a photographer who you can count on to show up and who has a back-up plan for if they should fall ill for example is going to cost money. But it’s worth it.

Of all the things you spend money on, (the food, the venue, the dress, the cake, etc) nearly all are consumed or not used after that day. If your DJ was a little corny, it’ll be a funny story later.
